Modem comes from the term modulator-demodulator that is used so you can connect to the internet. It translates the broadband signal from your business line and relays the information to router or computer.
It transmits digital information via analog systems and function to modulate an analog carrier signal to carry digital information and demodulate a similar signal to decode the digital information from the analog carrier signal.

3.Integrated Modem - it is a modem contained within a computer mostly USB or as PCI card. This isn't used anymore since it can only allow one computer to get access to the internet.
4.Cable, DSL, Fiber, Dial-up Modems - routers can be categorized based on type of service you use to connect to the internet. Most common are cables and DSL and some uses fiber optic access which really has fast speed.
