Can an IP PBX Telephone System help my business?

Despite being awarded the first U.S. patent for the telephone in 1876, Alexander Graham Bell refused to have a telephone in his study. Today, we’re sure he couldn’t ignore the benefits of the more contemporary IP PBX system.

That’s because an IP PBX system is not the same as the old copper-based telephone platform. It’s an internet-based system (similar, but better than VOIP) for 21st century business that sends conversations as data packets over the Internet, and gives your organisation plenty of business benefits, both immediate and long-term.

Here are five:

1. No Business Disruption in Setup

Whether you’re moving offices, expanding staff, upgrading technology, or starting from scratch, it’s critical that your organisation remains available via the telephone at all times. However traditional systems are often associated with install delays, numbers not working, and a few days of ‘dead time’ while everything is set up.

What must that cost your business?

An IP PBX telephone system on the other hand runs on a computer without the need for complex telco equipment or added copper wiring to be run into your office. Instead the phone lines are routed over the Internet. The IP PBX system switches local calls to over the data network inside your business and allows all users to share the same external phone lines. You even get to keep your regular telephone numbers.

2.More Control

An IP PBX system is managed from one central web-based configuration interface to make maintenance and upgrades easy. Compare that to traditional phone systems that use complex interfaces that must be accessed and managed by proprietary phone technicians only.

3. Greater Scalability

Typical proprietary phone systems are all too easy to outgrow as they only provide a certain number of physical lines or ports. Upgrading can be time-consuming and expensive. In some cases you even need an entirely new telephone system.

IP PBX based systems don’t have this issue. IP phones connect via the network, so you simply add or subtract handsets as you need. Either way – you have the right amount of equipment for your needs at any point in time.

4. Boost to Productivity

IP PBX telephone systems typically cost less than traditional systems. However they also deliver the features to increase office productivity, because both hot-desking and remote working are now easily possible.

Hot-desking is popular yet it’s almost impossible with traditional PBXs because they need extensions to be re-patched. With an IP PBX, your users simply take their phone to the new desk, plug in, and wallah, it works!

This concept extends to remote working too. If an employee has to work from home, they can fire up their software phone and answer calls to their extension as if they are physically in the office. Now you save money on equipment and time.

5. Loads of New Features

Contemporary IP PBX solutions offer more features than traditional telephone systems and their traditional digital counterparts including:

  • Call recording / tracking
  • Voicemail to email
  • Ring groups
  • Advanced reporting
  • Call-queues
  • Email notifications
  • Automatic attendants (voice menus)
  • DECT solutions for mobility in and around the office
  • Customer self administration
  • Computer telephony integration (CTI)
  • Remote workers
  • GSM gateway integration
  • Linking multiple sites

Also, you can integrate your phone functions with your business applications. One example may be that you want the customer record to load as you receive the customer call, dramatically cutting costs while improving customer service. Another is that outbound calls can be placed directly from your CRM to remove the need for users to type in the telephone number – saving mistakes and time.
